Marion Sentinel Thursday January 2, 1913
The death of Mr. A.E. White occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Henry Straley, Saturday afternoon at four o'clock. Mr. White was born in Morgan county, Ohio, May 23, 1925, and died in Marion Dec. 28, 1912, at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 5 days. He came to Linn county in 1853 where he has since resided. He was married to Mary D. Evans March 8, 1847, and to this union were born seven children, five of whom are still living: H.C. White of Jewel City, Kansas; Mrs. Henry Straley of this city, W.T. White of Chicago, Mrs. L.C. North of Aberdeen, S.D. and Mrs. James Fairbanks of Chicago. One child died in early childhood, and Mrs. Cora Jackson, a daughter, died in Chicago, in 1906. His wife died Oct. 11, 1896. Mr. White was well known in Marion, having made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Straley, for a number of years. He usually spent the winter with his son in Chicago. About three weeks ago Mr. White was stricken with paralysis and confined to his bed. He partly lost his speech but remained conscious to the last. He was loved by all who knew him, and it was not uncommon to hear many call him "Grandpa." He was converted in early youth and united with the Methodist Episcopal church and continued faithful till death called him.
The funeral services were held at the home of his daughter on North 11th street, Monday at two o'clock, Rev. A.T. Bishop conducting the services. A very appropriate text was chosen: Thou shalt come to thy grave in a full age like as a shock of corn cometh to his season." (Job 5:26) Interment in Oak Shade cemetery.
