C.D. "Bert" Gibson, a lifelong resident of Linn county and a retired farmer, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at a Cedar Rapids hospital where he had been for several days.
He was born March 29, 1868 on a farm east of Marion, the son of Benjamin and Catherine Courtney Gibson. He was married April 5, 1899 at Marion to Miss Anna Snyder and she passed away on August 31, 1912 at Marion. He was then married on November 27, 1918 at Iowa City to Charity Lehr who passed away at Cedar Rapids on November 1, 1938. Mr. Gibson farmed for many years on a farm about four miles east of Marion until his wife passed away and he retired and moved to town. He was a member of the Methodist church and of Osceola Lodge No. 18, I.O.O.F.
Surviving are a brother, W. Hart Gibson, Springville, three nephews, Merle Patton, Cedar Rapids, I. Kendall Gibson, Springville. H. Everette Gibson, Denver, Colo. and a niece, Mrs. Homer "Nylene" McShane, Springville.
Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Murdoch chapel by the Rev. Frank H. Ward of Cedar Rapids. Interment was in Oak Shade cemetery.
