Ralph Marshall was born in Jacksonville, Illinois, May 14, 1841, and passed away Sunday morning, January 26, 1913, at 4 o'clock after an illness lasting over a year and a half.
He was married to Nancy J. Laverty in Marshalltown, Iowa, March 21, 1867. To this union were born six children, one dying in infancy, and a son, Albert, who died fifteen years ago.
He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters: William, of St. Paul, Minn.; Charles, of San Juan, Porto Rico; Mrs. J.H. Denenabrink, of Postville, Iowa, and Miss Etta, at home; also eight grand children.
For the past twenty years he has been a traveling salesman, and having a cheerful disposition, has won many friends throughout the country.
While having no church affiliation, his motto was the golden rule, and he anxiously waited the end when, as he expressed it, he would be asleep forever.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed in the home and by those who knew him best.
The funeral services were conducted at the residence Tuesday afternoon, by Rev. A.T. Bishop, of the Methodist church.
