The Anamosa Eureka, Anamosa, Iowa, Thursday, July 19, 1900

The remains of Mrs. Levi Ellis were brought to Springville for interment last Saturday from Bolivar, Mo., where Mr. and Mrs. Ellis have resided for many years. In the early 50’s Mr. and Mrs. Ellis came to Iowa from Ohio and located just over the border in Linn County where they made their home until a few years ago. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Smith in the M. E. Church at Springville. Deceased was an aunt of Mr. W. R. Pearson and Dr. W. B. Pearson, of this city, both of whom, with their wives, attended the funeral.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Mary Jane Pearson, daughter of Jesse and Cynthia Pearson, was born in Belmont Co. Ohio, March 13, 1829. When she was but a child her parents removed her to Mega Co. thence to Morgan Co. where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage with Levi Ellis March 3, 1853. Soon after they moved to Cedar Co. Iowa, then to Tama Co., from whence they removed to Linn Co. in 1854 thence to Polk Co. Missouri in 1893, where after a lingering illness of 4 months she died July 11, 1900, being 71 years 1 month and 28 days old.
She leaves a husband and 7 children to mourn their loss. One child, Lyman, died in infancy. The surviving children are: Franklin, Alvin, Jesse S., Lucy A., Cynthia E., Pearly I., and Lucinda L. In early married life she united with her husband with the M.E. church, since which time she has ever lived a conscientious and consistent Christian. All who knew her learned to love her, her good and sweet council [sic] will ever live in the memory of her children.
Mother has gone but we will meet her,
We shall meet around the throne,
Where she waits to bid us welcome,
As we come to her one by one.
CARD OF THANKS
With grateful hearts we extend our many thanks to the kind friends of Springville and vicinity, for their aid and sympathy in the funeral services of our dear wife and mother.
