Local Resident Died Wednesday In Center Point
George Oakley, 80, 358 Ninth street, passed away at 10 a.m. Wednesday at a Center Point nursing home following a long illness.
Mr. Oakley was born at Marion on April 1, 1871 the son of Daniel and Helen Hewitt Oakley. He was married to Miss Minnie Grieshaber at Cedar Rapids on March 11, 1903. He was a Methodist.
He is survived by his wife and five sons: Carl of Marion; Clarence, Robert and Stanley all of Pasadena, Cal., and Steven of Cedar Rapids. He also leaves three daughters: Mrs. Pauline Tierney of Chicago, Mrs. Florence Lambert of Bremerton, Wash., and Mrs. Genevieve Gillam of Cedar Rapids. Also surviving are seven grandchildren and a brother, Walter Oakley of Cedar Rapids. Three sons: George, Harold and Harry D. preceded him in death.
Funeral services were conducted at the Yocom-Murdoch Chapel at 1 p.m. Tuesday by the Rev. James P. Gable. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
