Dorothea Carver, 84, of Cedar River Towers and a lifelong resident of Linn County, died Tuesday night at Mercy Hospital following a short illness.
She was born on July 30, 1898, in Linn County. Miss Carver was a graduate of Marion High School, graduated summa cum laude from Coe College in 1922, attended the University of Iowa and graduated from the Cedar Rapids Business College.
As a teacher of commercial arts, she taught at Belle Plaine, Centerville, and at the Cedar Rapids Business College until retirement. She was a life member of the Iowa State Education Association and a member of the National Retired Teachers Association, for which she served as a delegate. Miss Carver also was a member of the General Federation of Womens Clubs and the cedar Rapids Womens Club and served on a committee for the Witwer Senior Center.
Surviving is a sister, Myrtle Ford of Marion.
Services: 1:30 p.m. Friday at Murdoch's, Marion, by the Rev. Ken Adcock of the Marion Christian Church. Burial: Oak Shade Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral chapel after 3 p.m. today. Friends may contribute to the charity of their choice as a memorial.
