The Marion Sentinel Thursday August 22, 1901
Obituary.
Ralph J. Emmons the son of Mr. and Mrs. Berton Emmons was born June 22, 1900, and died Aug. 16, 1901, aged 13 months and 25 days.
Little Ralph was always a bright healthy child, and very large for his age. He gave every promise of becoming a strong intelligent man. His smiling happy face always attracted a great deal of attention. Those who knew him best will always remember him for his cheerful disposition. He had just reached the age in life when he was becoming more interesting and dear to his parents and grand-parents. He had just learned to walk alone, and was beginning to lisp the name of papa and mamma, and every day brought out something new in the little life.
In the evening, Aug. 15, he met with a serious accident which proved fatal on the day following. During the first two hours after the accident he was a great sufferer, but soon kind hands relieved him and later death brought an end to his suffering. We cannot understand why it should be so, why the treasure of the home should be taken so suddenly in such a way. We can only trust God, who cares for us in the hour of our bitter anguish.
"For the Lord who cares for the flowers,
Cares well for our greater need
He knows of the loss and anguis
The grope of the stricken soul.
He will bring again our dear one
By his touch of life made whole.
We shall meet and know and love him
In the spring beyond the sea
That after earth's dreary winter
Is coming to you and me."
The sorrowing parents have the sympathy of the entire community. Yet their loss is one that no human sympathy can alleviate. We can only commit them into the care of the Heavenly Father who will be more to them than all else in their hour of trial, and will in the other world restore the loved ones which he has now taken to himself.
"Lost a while our treasured love
Gained forever safe above."
The funeral services were held at the home of the parents, Sunday Aug. 18 at 2 P.M. being conducted by a former pastor and friend Rev. J.A. Seaton, assisted by Rev. W.H. Reynolds of Marion and Rev. J.M. Eldridge of Alburnett.
A large number of relatives and friends were present at the funeral, to pay their last respects to the memory of the departed.
Interment took place in the Marion Cemet[e]ry. A FRIEND
