PIONEER RESIDENT DIES AT SISTER'S HOME
Mary Elizabeth Cook Passes Away Tuesday
With the death of Mary Elizabeth cook at the home of her sister, Mrs. Marshall Swayne, Tuesday, friends here are sorrowing over the loss of a woman well known in the community.
Mrs.[sic] Cook, whose death followed a lingering illness, was the oldest child of William and Mary Cook, pioneers of Linn county. She was born in Chester county, Pa., Jan. 12, 1849, and came to Iowa when a child. Since that time she had lived in Linn county, with the exception of about twelve years, spent on her farm in Missouri.
Surviving are a sister, Emma Swayne, living south of Marion; a brother, Charles Cook, of Pasadena, and five children of her sister, Evan, for whom she cared following their mother's death. They are William Fleisher of Marion; Robert of San Diego; Albert of St. Louis; Milton of near Marion and Mrs. F.E Luse of Cedar Rapids.
Services will be held Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Pingrey chapel. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
