Philura Adelia Tinkham-Reiter, daughter of Albert and Colpoennia Tinkham, was born at Warsaw, N.Y., May 22, 1844.
When but two and one-half years of age she lost her mother by death and thus bereaved of a mother's fond and loving care.
In the course of time she came west to Princeton, Illinois, under this guardianship of two of her aunts, sisters of her mother, where she grew up into womanhood and where she was married to A.J. Reiter, May 22, 1862. Eight children were born to them, Albert E., who lives near Lohrville, Iowa; Carrie S., who lives in Norfolk, Nebraska; Horace E., Clarence E., and Roy P., who are employed in the grocery store of B.F. Mentzer; Ernest A. and Florence M., who are at home. Willie E. died in infancy, August 30, 1880.
In 1968[sic] they came to Buchanan county, Iowa, and in 1873 to Marion, where they resided ever since and where Mrs. Reiter died, March 10th, 1903.
Mrs. Reiter lived a consistent christian life, true to her vows up to her death, although the many family cares and ill health hindered her from attending church services a great deal.
Mrs. Reiter was an affectionate wife and a loving and kind mother. The care of her family was uppermost in her mind and she would sacrifice her own comfort to make her children comfortable. She was kind and obliging to neighbors and universally loved, wherever she has lived.
Pall bearers were H. White, S.W. Rathbun, E.W. Griffiths, John Brown, G.W. McCally and E. Garretson. The funeral services were held in the Christian church conducted by Rev. N.G. Brown, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. Kinzer of the Congregational church.
