Mrs. Tessie Cox, age 47, died yesterday at 11 p.m. at her home, 524 Sixth avenue west. She was born August 22, 1869, on a farm near Ely, Iowa, where she was married in September, 1888, to Perry J. Cox. Soon afterward she and her husband moved to South Dakota settling on a homestead. In 1891, when the Black Hawk Indians became troublesome, Mrs. Cox came to Cedar Rapids while her husband remained in Dakota. Mr. Cox participated in many battles with the Indians during that time. When the trouble was over Mrs. Cox went back to their claim. Mr. and Mrs. Cox came to Cedar Rapids to live in 1907, and have made their home since then at 524 Sixth avenue west.
Mrs. Cox is survived by two sons, Samuel Cox and Perry Lee Cox, of this city, and three daughters, Miss Cecil, Miss Martha and Miss Thelma, of Cedar Rapids. Two brothers, D.G. Oliver, of Sandstone, Minn., and J.D. Oliver, of North Liberty, and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Alstot of Riceville, Iowa and Mrs. J.H. Turnbull, of Cedar Rapids. Mrs. Cox was a member of the Holiness Mission, and Bible school at Fifth avenue and Third street west, and was an active religious worker. Funeral services will be held at the home Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be in Linwood cemetery.
