LEO HAVRAN
Cedar RapidsLeo Havran, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2020, at Cottage Grove Place. Celebration of Life services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, 2020, at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in Czech National Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 2020, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW.
Leo was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Center Point, the son of Louie and Julie (Hasek) Havran. He graduated from Center Point High School, Class of 1946. He was proud to be a welder at Iowa Manufacturing and supported the war effort at the age of 16. Leo was drafted into the United States Army Air Corps, where he was stationed predominantly in Japan. After his military service, he was united in marriage to JoAnne Hahn Craig on July 21, 1948, in Center Point. Leo worked at Barnard and Lea as a welder for approximately four years, as well as a carpenter with Ken Borchell/Dick Tickal for 10 years, until owning and operating his own construction/
carpentry business for more than 20 years.
Leo and his wife JoAnne enjoyed traveling, camping and square dancing, and were avid supporters of the Czech community and Czech museum in Cedar Rapids. They were members of St. Paul's United Methodist Church.
Leo is survived by his sons, Craig Lee Havran, Kevin Randal (Cecilia Balot) Havran and Clark Douglas (Jill) Havran; three grandchildren, Joshua (Brittany) Havran, Mathew (Heidi) Havran and Valerie Havran; and four great-grandchildren, Myles Havran, Josephine Havran, Lyric Havran and Iris Havran.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, JoAnne, who died June 6, 2016.
