The Marion Sentinel Thursday June 28, 1906
Oscar Judson Marble was born near Jordan, Cayuga Co., N.Y., Dec. 17, 1831, and died in Marion, Iowa, June 5th, 1906, aged 74 years, 5 months, and 18 days. He was married to Emiline Loomis in Columbus, N.Y., May 1st, 1856, and to them two children were born, Chas. E., and Ida, wife of J.J. Ives. Both children were with him at the time of his death. Mr. Marble united in his youth with the Baptist church and, until his health failed, was a regular attendant at church service.
Although his early educational advantages were few, he was a well educated man, having been a great reader and always choosing solid and substantial reading matter.
He was a regular and systematic reader of the Bible. During the year 1868 the family moved from New York to Iowa, locating in Cedar Rapids, and later to a farm east of Marion, where they lived many years, finally moving to Marion, where Mrs. Marble died in 1895. Since the death of his wife Mr. Marble has traveled over a good part of the United States, making several trips to his native state, where he was taken sick in February of this year. He returned to Marion March 31st, and his decline had been gradual since that time. He leaves, besides the son and daughter, three grandchildren, Jessie, Mary and Norman Ives; five brothers and one sister, all of whom live in the east.
The funeral was held from the home of J.J. Ives, June 7th, conducted by Rev. Shaw, pastor of the Marion Baptist church. Interment in Oak Shade cemetery.
