Mary Elizabeth, daughter of John G. and Elnor K. Hayzlett, was born near Greenfield, Hancock county, Indiana, April 16, 1853, and died October 28, 1914, in Marion, Iowa, after a rather brief illness. She came with her parents to Iowa in 1854, making their home at Mt. Vernon, Iowa, until moving to Marion in the year 1868. She was united in marriage with Samuel Daniels November 27, 1973. To this union were given three children, Dr. Charles E. Daniels, of Waukegan, Ill., Samuel, who died in infancy, and Marie (Mrs. A.W. Straley) of Roundup, Montana. Besides these two children is the husband, Samuel Daniels, and four sisters and one brother, Mrs. Alice E. Blair, Pine Bluff, Wyoming, Mrs. Rose Boston, Oklahoma City, Okla., Mrs. Jessie Bachtelheimer, Denver, Colo., Emory Hayzlett, Denver, Colo., and Miss Nettie Hayzlett of Marion, one grandchild, Dorothy D. Straley, also a large number of intimate acquaintances and friends. Mrs. Daniels was a woman of special gifts, always ready to take the leading part in matters of the home and community. She has been a long-time member of the Presbyterian church and was willing at all times to give of her strength and time to the improvement and upbuilding of the church. For many years she has been at the head of the Ladies' Aid society and it is due to her splendid executive ability that the ladies have done such a great work in the church.
