Kazimira "Cassie" Grandbergs died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, in the critical care unit at Mercy Medical Center after suffering a heart attack. She went home to her Lord whom she loved and honored by living according to his teachings. Services: 1 p.m. Saturday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Private burial: Oak Shade Cemetery, Marion. Friends may call after noon Saturday at the chapel. Arrangements by Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.

Kazimira was born May 20, 1912, in Riga, Latvia.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Eizans; a son, Ivars Grandberg; her parents; and three sisters.

Kazimira came to the United States in 1950, after having fled to Germany during the Russian invasion of her native Latvia. In spite of a difficult life, she maintained a contagious childlike enthusiasm and appreciation for life and the natural world. She was known to friends and family as the original optimist. She has an unquenchable spirit which earned her the family nickname "Mighty Mouse." Kazimira had a talent for raising flowers, culinary arts, a variety of handcrafts and making all whom she knew feel "special."
