Michael L. Whitcher , 59, of 990 S. Fifth St., died Monday, Nov. 3, 2003, in Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday, Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion by the Rev. Mike Morgan. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private family inurnment will be in Oak Shade Cemetery at a later date.

Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Carolyn "Care"; three daughters; two grandsons; and a special friend, Don Pearson of Marion.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mike was born Feb. 5, 1944, the son of Lawrence and Catherina (Annaschot) Whitcher in El Reno, Okla. On Nov. 2, 1968, he married Carolyn Rutt in Columbus City, Iowa. Mike served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He worked for Terry Durin Co. for over 20 years. Mike was a member of First United Methodist Church in Marion.

Mike was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
