The Marion Sentinel Thursday March 5, 1908
Death of Roy Sutzin.
The many friends of Roy Sutzin were surprised and shocked last Sunday to hear of his death, which occurred that morning at about 8:30. As was well known, he was apparently recovering nicely from a seven weeks' seige of typhoid fever at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids, from which institution he had been home four weeks, lacking one day.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at the Congregational church, of which he was a member, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M.L. Hutton.
Roy Dever Sutzin was born in Iowa City, Iowa, Dec. 3, 1881, and died March 1, 1908. He was married at Vinton, Iowa, July 27, 1903, to Miss Minnie Dormal[sic], who survives him. When quite young his mother died and he was adopted by his grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Sutzin. His father, Al Dever, whom he had not seen for many years, resides in Oregon. Many of our citizens will doubtless remember the fatal accident that befell Roy's sister when both were quite young. He and his sister were on the railroad bridge, just west of Marion, and in attempting to get out of the way of one train she stepped in front of another one going in the opposite direction and was killed. Roy saw the danger and escaped by lying down flat between the rails.
Roy was an industrious and exemplary young man and was well liked by a large circle of friends. Previous to his illness he had been in the employ of the Marion Light, Heat & Power Company as electrician for several years.
CARD OF THANKS
To the friends and neighbors, and to the members of the W.F. Fitzgarrald Hose Company and Mr. Williams, of the Delphus Theater, who extended sympathy and aid during the long recent illness and death of our husband and relative, Roy D. Sutzin, we wish to express our heartfelt thanks.
