Sarah J. Scott Former Resident Dies August 9
Sarah J. (Sayde) Scott, 78, passed away suddenly Saturday morning, Aug. 9, in an Orange, California hospital.
She was born Dec. 23, 1873 on a farm seven miles north of Marion, one of twelve children born to William Allen and Julalia Lucore Austin. She was the widow of Sherman Bently Scott, who passed away in 1924. She left Iowa in 1929 and has made her home in California with her daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Cessford.
While living in Marion she was active in the Womens Relief Corps. She is survived by three children, all of whom were with her at the time of her death, Mrs. Fern Scott Stoddard, Cedar Rapids, Mrs. Julalia Scott Cessford, Santa Ana, Cal., and Sherman Bently Scott of Orange, Cal. One grandson, Joseph S. Stoddard and a great granddaughter; Janet Louise Stoddard both of Los Angeles. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Merle Jordan of Cedar Rapids and a brother, John C. Austin of Cicero, Ill.
Funeral services were conducted on August 12 in Orange, Cal. The remains will arrive in Marion Sunday morning and further services will be conducted in the Yocom-Murdoch Chapel on Tuesday, Aug. 26 at 3:30 p.m. by the Rev. Arnold H. Marzolf. Burial will be in the family lot in Oak Shade cemetery. Friends may call at the Chapel after 1 p.m. Sunday.
