Heart Attack Is Fatal To Walter Scott
Funeral Services For William Walter Scott, 77, Held Here Wednesday
Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon for William Walter Scott, 77 years old, who died suddenly of a heart attack Monday as he sat at the dinner table. He had been in poor health for several years.
Services at the Yocom chapel here were in charge of Dr. W.E. Fisher, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and burial was in Oak Shade cemetery. Scores of friends of Mr. Scott called to pay their last respects, and floral tributes attested to his popularity.
Fate was not kind to Walter Scott, but through years of disappointment and a series of misfortunes that would have brought heartbreak to the ordinary man, this grand old gentleman's strength of character brought him through with an indomitable spirit that called forth the admiration and respect of everyone with whom he came in contact.
He was born June 2, 1855, at Mount Vernon, Ohio, and came to this community with his parents in 1872. The family purchased the Rufus Lucore farm, now known as the Holtz place, four miles northeast of Marion. On June 2, 1886, he married Lizzie Estelle Lucore. Three children were born: William Ellsworth, Arthur Edward and Jennie Mae.
Arthur died eleven years ago. Surviving Mr. Scott are his widow, one son, one daughter, and a brother, Charles M., of Orange, California. There are also several more distant relatives and a host of friends. One brother, S. Bentley Scott, died several years ago.
Mr. Scott was a devout member of the Presbyterian church and served for many years as a deacon, besides being active in all church affairs. In his younger years he took a leading part in community activities.
