Monday evening Herbert E., only son of Mr. and Mrs. E.B. Wilbur[sic], died at their home at half past seven o'clock. He had been ill two weeks with typhoid fever, and was not considered in a critical condition till Monday afternoon. His sister, Mrs. Vandermark, was summoned from Polo, Ill., but arrived too late to see him alive. The parents and sisters, Mrs. Vandermark and Mrs. Lee, deeply mourn his death, and the whole community sincerely sympathizes with the family in their great bereavement. Herbert was only 16 years old and was a favorite among his schoolmates and their love for him was manifested in their grief. The teachers and scholars attended his funeral in a body. The funeral was held yesterday in the M.E. church, of which he was a member, at 11 a.m. Services were conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.N. Chaffee, assisted by Rev. Bullman, pastor of the Presbyterian church. The choir and pall bearers were his classmates. Mr. and Mrs. Will Collar and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Collar of Marion, relatives, were in attendance at the funeral.
