Carl J. Feyen, 89, of Dubuque, passed away at 6 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family.

A mass to celebrate his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Holy Spirit Parish-Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Final resting place will be in Resurrection Garden Mausoleum, Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 4th at Hoffmann-Schneider Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 1640 Main Street.

Carl (Joe) was born October 22, 1928 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, son of Carl and Christina (Horne) Feyen. He was the fourth of five siblings. Carl attended Loras Academy and married Lois (Nilles) on June 19, 1954 in Nativity Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Cleburne which was a troop transporter. He was part of the first testing of the atomic bomb on the Atoll Islands in the Pacific. He worked at Dubuque Packing Company for four years. Carl then joined John Deere in the heat treat department for 17 years until his retirement in 1987.

He was an avid Green Bay Packer and Lawrence Welk fan. He loved building, remodeling and woodworking projects. Carl was always a positive, jokester and a loving family man.

He is survived by his children, Carlene Bainter, of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Carrie Chusid, of

Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Laura Feyen, of Englewood, Colorado, Peter (Jennie) Feyen, of Hazel Green, Wisconsin, Guy (Cathy) Feyen, of Hughville, Maryland, Gregg (Diane) Feyen, of Bullhead City, AZ, and Tim (Tami) Feyen, of Platteville, Wisconsin; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois in 2008, his parents, sisters, Betty Jettner, Adel Faith, Lois Faith, and a brother Bill Feyen.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
