BIMAEL P. WICKHAM
Died, at his home, in Marion, Oct. 11, 1893, Bimael P. Wickham. He was born in Ohio, Jan. 31, 1828, and was married, in Marion, Nov. 29, 1855, to Miss Mary Ann Hendrickson. They had six children, one daughter, Mrs. L.J. Fowler, of Marion, and five sons. George W. who died in Marion, July 22nd, 1891. John C. who is married and resides near Mt. Vernon. William F. who is married and resides in southern Kansas. Otha C. and James A. in the vicinity of Marion.
Mrs. M.A. Wickham died in Marion, July 24, 1872.
Mr. Wickham enlisted, at Marion, Aug. 5th, 1862, in Capt. R. Lucore's Company H. 20th Regiment, Iowa Volunteers, and was in most of the campaigns in which his regiment took part, to the close of the rebellion. He was mustered out with his company, at St. Louis, Mo., May 31, 1865. He became a charter member of the Robert Mitchell Post, No. 206, G.A.R. in 1884, and continued a member until his death.
He was twice elected by the citizens of Marion to the office of Justice of the Peace, filling said office with entire satisfaction to the people. Five years ago, he began to suffer from heart trouble, and during the last year, he has frequently been confined to the house, with little hope of being able to be out again. Some business requiring attention, he ventured out a few days ago, and took a cold, which seemed to hasten his death. He is remembered by the old settlers of Marion, and vicinity as an honest citizen and a kind neighbor, and by his comrades, as a faithful soldier and companion, and by every true patriot, who knew him, with gratitude for the service rendered our country, in time of need. The funeral service was held at the house, conducted by Rev. Alex S. Marshall, and was attended by many of the old settlers, and members of the Robert Mitchell Post.
