Obituary.
ALLEN LUTZ.
Allen Lutz was born in Fayette Co., Pa., Sept. 5, 1880, and died May 17, 1898, being in his sixty eighth year. He was the eldest son of Martin and Eliza Lutz. He removed to Iowa in 1855, where he continued to reside until his death, his last few years being spent in his new home in the city of Marion. Nov. 30, 1858, he was united in marriage to Sarah M. Stuckslager. The result of this union was eleven children of whom eight are now living. The bereaved widow, four sons and four daughters are left to mourn his loss. He made a public profession of religion April 14, 1864, uniting with the Presbyterian church of Marion under the ministry of Rev. Alex. Marshall, D.D., and entered at once upon the duties of active and efficient membership, being chosen by the congregation first to the office of deacon and then to the eldership. In the latter office he served some seventeen or eighteen years, remaining an active and valuable member of [can't read] until a short time before his death. Mr. Lutz was an intelligent christian who was able to give a reason for the faith he possessed, was familiar with the Bible, sincerely believed its teachings and had made mature and advanced attainments in the divine life. Few elders were better aquainted with the doctrines and discipline of the Presbyterian church and perhaps none were more conscientious in striving to be faithful in the administration of the same. He was a man of sterling honesty and integrity, had positive views of the truth, and possessed the courage of his convictions. His end was peace. "Mark the perfect man and behold the upright; the end of that man is peace."
