The Linn County Register of Marion, Iowa Thursday November 13, 1862
DEAD.--The body of Abraham B. Batterson, formerly a Merchant under the REGISTER office, arrived home on Tuesday last, in a Metallic Coffin. He died at Helena, Arkansas about a week ago and the body was sent home for interment. At the breaking out of this hellish rebellion, Mr. Batterson was in Peoria, Illinois, and at the first call for Volunteers, he enlisted in the Peoria Light artillery battery; was elected Orderly Sargent and afterwards, for meritorious conduct at Pea Ridge and other fields was promoted to the rank of 1st Lieutenant. The battery to which he was attached has received and richly earned a high reputation on several hard fought fields, and none of its brave numbers bore themselves with greater gallancy than LIEUT. BATTERSON. All honor to his memory! Let him rest in peace!
