Obituary.
MRS. BETHIA LEFFINGWELL.
Mrs. Bethia Leffingwell was born in Wells, Rutland county, Vermont, March 7th, 1804 and was the daughter of Dr. Socrates Hotchkiss and his wife Mary An Dolittle of Cheshire, Conn. She married Mr. Joseph Leffingwell in her native town, February 8th, 1822. To them were born two children, Julia A. and Sarah E. In 1832 they made their home in Onondaga county, and from there came to Marion in 1845, where Mrs. Leffingwell has since resided. The husband died some years ago, and the daughter Sarah, who became Mrs. Harlan, has also passed away. Mrs. Leffingwell's home has been with her daughter Julia, Msr. A.B. Dumont, whose husband and children have vied with each other in kindness to the aged mother. For thirty years she has been a cherished life in the daughter's home. In early life she was a member of the Episcopal church, but all her later years she was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church church, worthy and true. For her to live was Christ, to die was gain. Notwithstanding her advanced age, her mind was perfectly clear and her sick room an inspiration to every lover of humanity and God. The end was victory. One thinks of her not as dead but having entered into life eternal. The funeral services were held at the home on October 15th, conducted by her pastor, Rev. J.G. Van Ness, the body laid to rest in Marion's beautiful cemetery. None name her but to praise.
