The Marion Register Wednesday January 15, 1896
NATHAN L. CULVER.
Nathan L. Culver was born in New York state, July 19, 1817, and died in Marion, Iowa, January 10, 1896. He came west and directly to this city, twenty-nine years ago. For five years he made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Jellison. He has suffered much during these years, having been stricken with paralysis. Two children survive him, the daughter whose privilege it was to care for him, and a son in Oregon. Besides these, there are five grandchildren, several brothers and sisters in Pennsylvania whom he delightfully visited several times in the last few years. His wife passed away in 1876. Having almost reached the great age of eighty years, it is no wonder that when pneumonia attacked him it found him an easy victim, and it was this disease that caused his death. He, in other years, was a member of the United Brethren church, but did not connect himself with any church in Marion, but attended the Free Methodist church that being the one very near his home. Death came very stealthily, suddenly, and ere many knew he was ill, he was gone. Services were held at the home, conducted by the Rev. J.G. VanNess, of the M.E. church, and the body laid to rest in the beautiful cemetery near his daughter's home.
