Claire Davis Dies In Vets Hospital
Thomas Claire Davis, 55, died at the Veteran's Administration in Des Moines at 1:05 p.m. Tuesday following a long illness.
He came to Marion in 1924 from Springville and worked as a barber here most of his life. Born Oct. 28, 1892 at Dorchester, Nebr., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Davis, he was a member of the Methodist church and Marion Post No. 298, American Legion.
During the first World War, he enlisted in the army in 1917 and served in England and France.
Services will be held at the Yocom chapel at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. James P. Gable officiating. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Marion American Legion. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
He is survived by two sons, Sgt. Theodore J., U.S. Army at Fort Worth, Texas, and George, of Marion; three daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Wall, Charlotte and Judy Ann, all of Cedar Rapids; a brother, Harley of Mt. Vernon; three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Neilsen and Mrs. Blanche Neilsen, both of Marion, and Miss Nellie Davis of Springville, and one granddaughter.
