1 November 1906 - The Clarence Sun

Rev. A. K. Knox, pastor of the Presbyterian church at Mt. Vernon, passed away at an early hour Monday morning. A singular thing in connection with his death was that he had tendered his resignation to take effect Nov. 1, and on Sunday preached his farewell sermon, the text being, "And having done all, to stand." The Mt. Vernon Record says: "Few knew that Rev. Knox suffered severely all through the service. It was noted by some that he leaned on the pulpit as he preached the morning discourse, but that was attributed to weakness and not pain. He was suffering from a severe pain in the back when he awoke Sunday morning. As soon as the morning sermon--the sermon he had announced to be the last--was over he went home and lay down. The pain in his back continued and toward evening he began to grow worse. During the night he became unconscious and remained so for a couple of hours before his death."
