Amanda Schmickle
Amanda Schmickle, 96, a lifelong resident of Lafayette, died Jan. 15 in a Cedar Rapids hospital. She was born the daughter of Henry and Caroline Struchen Notbohm on June 18, 1882 at Lafayette. On Dec. 19, 1900 at Lafayette she was married to Carl W. Schmickle. Mr. Schmickle died Oct. 29, 1960. Mrs. Schmickle was a member of the Lafayette United Methodist chruch.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Clista Stephenson of Center Point; four grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and one sister, Myrtle Stephenson of Marion. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Stella Whipple; two sisters, Carrie Hockspeir and Clara Ritze; and three brothers, Rudolph, Louis and Harlie Notbohm.
Services were 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, at the Murdoch chapel in Marion, conducted by her great grandson, the Rev. Daryl Martin of the Calmar United Methodist church. Interment was in Lafayette cemetery. A memorial fund has been established.
