Mrs. Sophronia Andrews, died at Marion--at the home of her daughter Mrs. Miles Carsner, March 19, 1895, aged 82 years and 11 days. She was born in Chenango Co., New York, March 8th, 1813, two years later with her parents Elijah and Polly Smith removed to Morgan Co., Ohio.
She was married to Philander Andrews in 1833, who died in 1861. To them were born 9 children all of whom lived to man and womanhood except one. Five survive her to mourn the loss of a kind and affectionate mother. Her life from childhood was one of toil, not unlike others mingled with heavy sorrows but in all the relations which she sustained as wife, mother and neighbor her aim was to perform the duties that rested on her faithfully. She united with the Baptist church in 1838, while residing in Ohio, and on removing to Iowa in 1845, she united with the Baptist church in Marion. Thus another link connecting the past with the present is broken. Fifty years ago Silas Gray and Elijah Ives, were deacons of the church, and the Cones and a host of others who have passed away were active members. One by one the pioneers and workers of former days leave us.
Her children sorrow not as those without hope for hers in the "blessed sleep, from which none ever wake to weep."
