The Cedar Valley Times Thursday February 7, 1861
The wife of ADAM LUTZ, living near the Linn County Fair Grounds, was found drowned in the well last Wednesday forenoon. She arose early in the morning, built a fire and went out. Her son soon after went to the well to water the horses when he discovered the body of his mother in the well, face and feet down. The family of Mr. LUTZ were among the greatest sufferers in the tornado last June. Having lost two children, all their worldly effects caused Mrs. LUTZ great depression of spirits, and it is supposed was one of the principal reasons for her making way with herself in the manner she has, as there was no evidence that she went to the well to draw water.
