Wednesday Services For Louisa Durham
Louisa Ellen Durham, 82, passed away at 7:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 9 at her home, 1170 Tenth street, after a brief illness.
She was born May 15, 1864, at Marion, Iowa, the daughter of Samuel W. and Ellen Wolcott Durham who came to Iowa in the early 1840's from Indiana and Ohio. Miss Durham was a graduate of the Marion High school. For several years she taught in the rural schools of Linn county. She gave up teaching to care for her parents during their later years. Following their death she joined her sister Mary in Washington, D.C. and was employed in the Census Bureau there.
She was a member of the Marion Presbyterian church; the Continental chapter D.C., D.A.R. of Washington; and the Society of Descendants of the Mayflower through John Alden.
She is survived by a sister, Miss Mary W. Durham, with whom she made her home and a brother Benjamin H. Durham of Huntington Park, Calif. A sister, Mrs. Alice Tillotson, and two brothers, Canfield and Jefferson Durham preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at her home 1170 Tenth street in charge of Rev. C.V.R. DeJong. Pallbearers were Hugh Hutton, Lumer Lorence, Ernest Woolley, Marley Clark, Walter Kramer and Irvin L. Ford.
Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
