Please add the following obituary:
The Marion Pilot Thursday June 28, 1900
Joab Robinson Shinn was born in Harrison County, West Virginia, Dec. 16, 1819. Died at Union, Oregon, June 14, 1900. When a lad of fourteen, Mr. Shinn's parents moved from West Virginia to Fulton County, Ill. Here he grew to manhood and was united in marriage to Frances A. Slack, Oct. 1, 1850. In 1851 Mr. Shinn moved to Linn County, Iowa, where he lived for more than forty-two years or until 1893 when he went to make his home with his oldest daughter in Oregon and to visit his two sons. Of a family of eight children born in Linn County, Mrs. Wm. Fleming, of Alburnette[sic], is the only member of the family living near the home of her birth, the remaining members of the family, two sons and two daughters being in Oregon. When about thirty years old Mr. Shinn professed faith in Christ as the Savior and united with the Baptist church at Canton, Ill., and later was charter member of the church of that denomination in this city. He adhered faithfully to his Baptist principles for more than fifty years and died patiently and submissively waiting for the end.
