The Marion Register Monday December 14, 1903
Mrs. Amelia Bailey Dead.
Saturday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mr.s Dr. Raymer, in Cedar Rapids occurred the death of Mrs. Amelia Bailey formerly of this city. She had been in poor health for some time and for the past few days her decline has been rapid.
Mrs. Bailey was a good woman of lovely character. Her life has been given to her children and to the church where she has been a constant and hard worker. She was one whom you loved to meet as she always had a pleasant smile and a kind word for all.
She was born in Ross County, Ohio, July 9, 1829. She was first married to Wm. Pence who only lived a short time. She afterward married Wm. H. Bailey and with him came to this city where she resided until she removed to Cedar Rapids a number of years ago. For the past eleven years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Dr. Raymer.
Her seven children who have been with her a great deal during her recent illness were with her at the time of her death. They are E.W. Pence of Chicago; John Bailey, Mrs. T.G. Bromwell, Mrs. Lyman Ayers, Mrs. Anne Mitchell, Mrs. Dr. Raymer, all of Cedar Rapids; and Mrs. F.H. Worthington of Rockford, Ill. She leaves also two brothers living in Ohio and one in Des Moines, Dr. Geo. C. Hanawalt, and one sister, Mrs. J.M. Fisher of Fairfield, Iowa.
A good woman is gone. Her life work is done and the world is better for her having lived. She will be missed by friends of whom she had many, church and family.
Her funeral services will be held at the home of Dr. Raymer to-morrow afternoon.
