Carrie Bloom Fernow, a life-long resident of Linn county, died Thursday, Dec. 11, at 8:55 p.m. at St. Luke's hospital in Cedar Rapids.
She was born in Marion June 15, 1865, the daughter of James R. and Hannah Riley Bloom, was educated here, and on March 3, 1892 was married in Marion to Edward L. Fernow, who died in this city Oct. 17, 1917.
Surviving are a son and two daughters, Ruth (Mrs. W.R.) Kortson and Samuel B. Fernow, both of Marion, and Helen (Mrs. Reuben) Smith of Cedar Rapids, with whom she had made her home the past few years; also a niece, Dorothy Drew Cline, who was raised in the Fernow home. There are four grandchildren, Arline and Dorothy Jean Fernow of Cedar Rapids, Melvin Fernow of Tulsa, Okla., and Bonnie Smith of Cedar Rapids. Also a sister, Mrs. Ella White of Los Angeles.
Mrs. Fernow graduated from Marion high school with the class of '84, attended Coe college, and before her marriage taught school at the Prescott building. She was a member of the Marion Presbyterian church, and belonged to the Reading circle.
Funeral services were held at the Yocom chapel Saturday at two o'clock P.M., and burial was made in Oak Shade cemetery.
