Obituary of Mrs. Gertrude Snidecor
Mrs. Gertrude Kurtz Snidecor was laid at rest in Oak Shade cemetery, Saturday afternoon by the side of her mother, who passed away about four years ago.
Gertrude, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Kurtz, was born July 31, 1872 in Lisbon, but when eight years old came to Marion with her parents, and this continued to be her home until her marriage May 4, 1888 to Welcome R. Colvin. His death occurred October 18, 1908, at their home in Rockport, Mo. Later she was married to Geo. E. Snidicor[sic], making her home in Corona, Calif. Frail in health for some time, she suffered a serious illness in July and her father was called to her bedside. She was brought back by him and his daughter-in-law, Mrs. Geneva Kurtz, and tenderly cared for by the latter in her home, in Cedar Rapids, until the end came October 30. She is survived by two sons, Roy W. Colvin and Elwyn K Snidicor[sic], and her father. Mr. Kurtz has been bereft of his entire immediate family, wife, son and daughter, also a brother and sister during the past five years, and he has the sympathy of many friends in his recent bereavement.
As a girl and young woman in Marion, Mrs. Snidecor was popular, and her home was the scene of many pleasant social affairs. From this same home, in which she had been the center of many happy affairs, her funeral was held, with the Rev. A.H. Hanscom, pastor of the Methodist church, of which she was a member, in charge. Miss Marguerite Sutherland sang a solo, "Face to Face".
