Leroy A. Canedy was born in Tioga county, Penn. on Sept 22, 1857 and died at his home in Marion, Iowa, Oct. 21, 1922, at the age of sixty-five years and twenty-nine days. In the year 1866 he came to Linn county with his parents, settling in Mt. Vernon. He came to Marion sixteen years ago and has been an honored citizen, since that time. Mr. Canedy was a devoted Christian, having been converted at Crabapple church in the year of 1881, during a revival meeting there. The record of the local church shows that he united here in 1909 on the 26th of December under the pastorate of S.R. Beatty. He served as Sunday school superintendent and class leader in the church held at Clive school houses.
He was stricken with the sickness that ended in his death in May of this year. He was married to Miss Ettie Russell near Marion on Dec. 29, 1881. Five children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy. He leaves his wife and three children, Aimee Young of Marion; Thomas Canedy, of La Port, Minn.; and Charles of Long Beach, Calif. He also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Belle McCalley, of Walker, Iowa; and Mrs. Hattie Mann, of Gard, Nebraska. There are twelve grandchildren, a number of nephews and nieces, besides a host of relatives and friends who mourn his passing. His father and mother, two brothers and a sister have preceded him in death. Mrs. Myra Scott, the sister having died in Marion Sept. 9th, 1920
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. and were in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Earle A. Baker, assisted by the Rev. James E. Lee, of Cedar Rapids. Burial was made in Oak Shade.
