Marie Michel James, 86, formerly of Marion, died Monday, May 1, 2000, in Austin, Texas, following a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Murdoch Funeral Home, Marion, by the Rev. Stan Wierson. Burial: Oak Shade CEmetery. Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Survivors include a brother, a daughter in law and two grandchildren {names omitted for privacy}.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a son, Robert C. James.
Marie was born June 17, 1913, the daughter of Elmer and Elsie Scholtz Michel, on a farm four miles north of Marion. She was united in marriage to Clarence H. James on Jan. 20, 1938, in Marion. Marie attended school in Marion and worked at Farmers State Bank and later at the Marion Water Department for 21 years, retiring in 1978. In May 1997, she moved to Austin, Texas, to be near her son and his family.
Marie's life was a blessing and an example to all of her family. "Well done, good and faithful servant...Enter into the joy of your Master."
