George B. Reichard, Member of Pioneer Marion Family, Dies
George B. Reichard was stricken with a sudden heart attack Wednesday afternoon at the Sigfred Clothing store, and died this morning at his home, 969 Fourteenth street at 9:15 o'clock.
Mr. Reichard was born in Marion April 16, 1872, the son of Benjamin R. and Marie Jones Reichard, his mother also a native of Marion, and his father coming here at an early date from Pennsylvania. He was educated in the Marion schools, learned pharmacy in a local drug store, and was employed by T.R. Alexander as a registered pharmacist. Later he took up the shoe and clothing business, and for two years was employed at Vinton, where he met and married Josephine Edwards, of that city, on September 8, 1903.
Moving back to Marion with his bride, Mr. Reichard started work in the Ed Sigfred clothing store in 1904, and put in thirty-five years of his life there, and was known and esteemed by every person in the entire community.
Surviving are his wife, and one daughter, Mrs. Marie Miller, of Maquoketa, and by one grandson, John Miller. A son died in infancy. He is also survived by two sisters, Mrs. W.S. Campbell of Marion and Mrs. I.O. Lieuellen, of Lincoln, Nebr.
Mr. Reichard was a member of the Marion Methodist church, and had been the church financial secretary for more than a quarter century. He was also a member of Marion lodge, No. 6, A.F. & A.M.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been completed, but will quite likely be held from the Yocom chapel Saturday afternoon. Friends may call there.
