J.C. Fulkerson, Long Prominent In Marion Business Circles, Dead

J.C. Fulkerson, prominent in business circles in this vicinity, died at his home, 992 Eighteenth street, Saturday night after an illness of three weeks. Mr. Fulkerson was associated with the late T.J. Davis in the lumber business in Marion from 1894 until about 1902. Then he was in the building materian business in Cedar Rapids in Cedar Rapids, selling out to the Builders Material company in 1924. About 1915, with L.B. Stuart and T.G. White, Mr. Fulkerson established the Handy Sack Baler company. The last few years he had also been in the contracting business with Irwin Lanning. Mr. Fulkerson served two terms on the city council.
The youngest of five children, he was born at Dryden, N.Y., April 21, 1865. He was the last surviving member of his family. When he was about 25 years old, he came west, settling for a time at Ireton, before coming to Marion in 1894. Mr. Fulkerson was a member of the class of 1888 in mechanical engineering at Cornell university. He was married to Miss Georgeanna[sic] Cole at Dryden, N.Y., in 1890. Mrs. Fulkerson died several years ago. Two sons and two daughters survive: Sam of Indianapolis, Mrs. Harold Peck of Marion, Carol of Boston, and Joy Anna of Wichita, Kan. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Yocom chapel. The Rev. W.E. Fisher, pastor of the Presbyterian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Shade cemetery.
