Arthur E. Crew, Marion Doctor 60 Years, Dies
Dr. Arthur E. Crew, 97, a lifelong resident of Marion, died Tuesday in a Marion nursing home.
He was born Nov. 9, 1875, at Marion. On June 29, 1903, he was married to Bertha Ives, who died Dec. 24, 1962 in Marion.
Dr. Crew served with the physicians corps during World war I. He was graduated from Marion high school in 1896, attended Cornell college, and was graduated from the University of Iowa in 1902. He was a practicing physician in Marion for 60 years.
Dr. Crew was a lifetime member of the Linn County Medical Society, the Iowa State Medical Society, and the American Medical Ass., and served as staff of both Cedar Rapids hospitals.
He was a former mayor of Marion, and a former state chess champion.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Herbert Gee of West Palm Beach, Fla.; a son, Dr. Philip I. Crew of Cedar Rapids; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
Services: 11 a.m. Friday at the Murdoch chapel in Marion conducted by the Rev. Glen W. Lamb. Burial: Oak Shade cemetery in Marion. Friends may call at the chapel.
