BUZZA SERVICES HELD WEDNESDAY
Mary J. Buzza, R.N. 1409 Second Ave, S.E., Cedar Rapids, a former Marion resident and a veteran of World War I, passed away at 1:35 p.m. Monday at a Cedar Rapids hospital following a brief illness.
The daughter of George and Sophia Ann Winsor Buzza, she was born November 6, 1877, at Miles, Iowa. Miss Buzza was graduated from Marion high school with the class of 1894. In 1906, she graduated from Cook County hospital school of nursing in Chicago, where she practiced until enlisting in the U.s. Army nursing corps on October 19, 1918. She was with the U.S. Army Base Hospital at Camp Sherman, Ohio. Following her discharge on July 12, 1919, she served as school nurse at Brookings, S.D. until 1925 when she went to Minneapolis where she was an industrial nurse at the Buzza Co. In 1932, she returned to Marion to make her home.
Miss Buzza was a member of the Marion Christian church, Marion Post No. 298, American Legion and a charter member of Linn County Post No. 695, Veterans of World War I of the U.S.A.
Surviving are a brother, Frank C. Buzza, Owen Sound, Canada; and two sisters: Mrs. N.C. (Millie) Rice, Lynnwood,Washington and Amber B. Travis, Marion, and several nieces and nephews. A brother, G. Earl Buzza passed away in 1957.
Services were conducted at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday at the Murdoch Chapel, Marion, by the Rev. Herbert G. Kohl, pastor of the Marion Christian Church, Military services were conducted at the graveside in Oak Shade cemetery by Marion Post No. 298, American Legion.
