Mathew Bernatz.
Mathew Bernatz, 1612 Washington avenue SE, died at his home at 11:25 p.m. Monday after a brief illness. He was born in McGregor, Ia., Oct. 17, 1856. For a number of years he was an extensive operator in the grain and milling business at Pittsburgh, Pa.
On April 8, 1880, he was married to Miss Mary Bauss in Pittsburgh. Returning to Iowa, he engaged in the same business in Spillville, Decorah and West Union, retiring in 1906, and moving to Cedar Rapids. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian church.
Surviving are his wife, three sons, Dr. C.F. Bernatz, Pittsburgh; A.H. of Kenosha, Wis., and J.B. Bernatz, at home; one granddaughter and one great-grandchild, both of Pittsburgh.
Services will be conducted by the Rev. James H. Blackstone in the Moen chapel at 2 p.m. Thursday. Friends may call at the chapel.
