Wednesday December 15, 1897 The Marion Register
The Late Chrisley Grandle.
Died, at the home of his brother-in-law, and sister, Mr. and Mrs. S.S. Cooper, of last week, Mr. Chrisley Grandle, aged 71 years. Mr. G. came to Iowa, from Ohio, about thirty years ago. Many years of his Ohio life were spent in school teaching but after coming to this state he becamse interested with his brother, Harvey Grandle in farming. The two brothers were in partnership until last spring, the subject of this sketch making his home with his brother. He never married so his nearest relatives, living, are his brothers and sister. One of his brothers, Emanuel, lives in Ohio. Another, Harrison, lives in Kansas. Both with Harvey and his sister, Mrs. Cooper, were present at the funeral. He leaves a large estate but whether he made a will or not we are not advised.
Mr. Grandle never united with the church, but was one [of] the most liberal contributors to the church in the county. Mr. Alexander Paul, who was his neighbor for a quarter of a century says he was the universal favorite of all who knew him.
The funeral services were held Thursday in the Crab Apple M.E. church, and the discourse was preached by Rev. Dillman Smith of Springville.
There was a very large attendance at the services.
