MARION MOURNS AS ROY REITER IS LAID AT REST
---------------
DEPUTY POSTMASTER SUCCUMBS TO A LONG AND LINGERING ILLNESS
---------------------
All Business Ceases While Final Rites Are Being Said Over His Body
All business ceased between the hours of 2:30 and 3:30 o'clock Monday afternoon while the last rites were being said for Roy E. Reiter and the entire city joined with the stricken family in paying a last loving tribute to the memory of the man whom they had known so long, respected and loved so much. The services were held at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. A.B. Book, assisted by Rev. Samuel Noah of Des Moines, a former pastor. The services at the grave were in charge of Trojan lodge No. 548, A.F. & A.M., and the burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
The death of Roy Reiter was irrepressibly sad. In th[e] very prime of his manhood, with a bright outlook for the future, death came after an illness of more than two years. Until within a short time ago it was believed that he was on the road to recovery. His ailment took a sudden turn for the worse most unexpectedly and in a little more than two weeks the end came, news of which was received with the deepest sorrow by the entire city.
The son of A.J. and Eloria Reiter, he was born in Marion Aug. 18, 1881 and was therefore only 44 years of age at the time of his death. Twenty-two years ago he became an employe[sic] of the Marion postoffice[sic] and for some time had been deputy postmaster, a position which he filled greatly to his own credit and to the entire satisfaction of all. Two years ago he suffered an illness and was compelled to take a long vacation. At the end of the time he returned to his duties greatly improved in health and it was not until a couple of weeks before his death that the final breakdown occurred. He had been planning great things for the future and seemed endowed with a greater energy than ever before in his life.
On June 12, 1918, he was married to Clara V. Douglas of this city and she survives together with a little 5-year--old daughter, Mary Orelda. Other relative surviving are his four brothers, Albert, Horace E., and Clarence Reiter of Marion and Ernest Reiter of Cedar Rapids, together with two sisters, Mrs. Carrie Rasley and Miss Florence Reiter of Norfolk, Neb.
Mr. Reiter was a member of the Christian church, of Trojan lodge No. 548, A.F. & A.M. and of the Modern Woodmen of America.
Out-of-town folks who attended the funeral of Roy E. Reiter were Mr. and Mrs. William Markle, Roscoe Plum of Iowa City, Mrs. Herman Georges and son Bobby, of Chicago, Mrs. Carrie Rasley and son Clarence, Miss Florence Reiter of Norfolk, Neb., Mrs. S. C. Douglas of Sioux City, B.S. Alysworth of Des Moines, M. Lemmabach of West Liberty, Louie Hoebel of Belle Plaine, Mrs. H.P. Hefelfinger of Marshalltown, Fred Senninger of Kansas City, Mo., and the E.E. Douglas family of Cedar Rapids.
