Obituary from the Thursday May 19, 1977 edition of The Marion Sentinel from Marion, Iowa
Jack C. Toms, 58, a lifelong Linn County resident, except for 10 years when he made his home in Nebraska died May 14 in a Cedar Rapids hospital. He was born the son of Clayton and Elaine Bishop Toms on July 28, 1918 at Central City. Mr. Toms attended the University of Iowa, he served with the U.S. Army during World War II, and was employed by Central City Community Schools. He was a member of the Presbyterian church.
Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. David (Mary Jo) Brown of Des Moines; one son, Lt. Terry J. Toms of Oak Harbor, Wash.; two grandchildren, Laurel and Matthew Waggoner, both of Des Moines; his mother, Elaine Toms of Central City, and a brother, Joe L. Toms of Marion. He was preceded in death by his father; and one brother, Bishop Toms.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. May 17, at the Chapel of Memories in Cedar Rapids, conducted by the Rev. Keith Weiland. Interment was in Cedar Memorial Park. Murdoch chapel in Central City had charge of the arrangements.
