Benita G. Smith, 81, of Crestview Acres, a Marion resident since 1968, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 1982 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, following a lingering illness. She was born the daughter of John A. and Christina Jordt Grote on Dec. 2, 1901 at Van Horne, Ia. She graduated from Marion High School in 1920, and received her B.S. Degree in 1928 and her M.S. Degree in 1941 at Iowa State University. Mrs. Smith was a professor of Home Economics and in charge of the Child Development Program at Stout State University in Wisconsin for 24 years. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church and the Tennyson Club.
Surviving are a daughter, Jina Su Bise of Los Angeles, Calif.; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at the Murdoch Chapel at Marion, Ia., conducted by the Rev. Jay A. Miller. Interment was in Oak Shade Cemetery in Marion. A memorial fund has been established.
