George McBride Is Summoned Suddenly By Death Saturday
---------------------
Funeral services were held in the Yocom chapel here at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon for George V. McBride, well-known farmer who died suddenly Thursday afternoon while feeding his cattle. Death was due to dilation of the heart.
Rev. Earl A. Baker, of Mount Vernon was in charge of the services, assisted by Rev. John M. Walters of the Marion Methodist church. G.H. Clark sang two songs, accompanied by Mrs. Clark. Pall bearers were Frank Stevenson, Donald Atwater, Wade Stookey, and Earl Miller, of near Marion, E.D. Armstrong, of Marion, and Thomas Stewart of Martelle. Burial was in Oak Shade cemetery.
Mr. McBride has been in poor health for some time, but his condition was never considered serious. Thursday afternoon he went into the hay mow at his farm west of Marion to throw down hay for the cattle, and was stricken while at work. His body was discovered by his son, Melvin, a senior in the Marion high school, about 6 o'clock.
He was born in Ohio, Feb. 18, 1878, the son of John and Jemima McBride, and came west with his parents when he was a boy, settling in Jones county. Later they moved to Martelle, where he married Maude Lee Taylor, on Oct. 17, 1909. They moved to Osmond, S.D., where they lived for eleven years before returning here to their present home.
Mr. McBride is survived by his widow and one son, Melvin, besides five sisters: Mrs. Amanda Dripps, Miss Mary McBride, Mrs. Alice Kester, Mrs. Margaret KEarns, all living in or near Tacoma, Wash., and Mrs. Anna Harmon, of Carthage, S.D., besides many more distant relatives and a host of friends. Mr. McBride was widely known and all his acquaintances admired him for his many fine qualities. He formerly managed a filling station in Marion.
