Jonas A. Ratliff A Retired Farmer, Died Early Tuesday
Jonas A. Ratliff, 84, a farmer in his active years, died at 2:50 a.m. Tuesday, October 2, in a Cedar Rapids hospital following a long illness.
He was born August 1, 1861, at Monterey, Virginia, the son of George and Elizabeth McCallister Ratliff, and moved to Missouri in 1881, where on September 1, 1886, he was married to Matilda Sanders, a Monroe county girl.
In 1900 he came to Marion. Two years later he moved to Farley and since 1920 has made his home in Cedar Rapids and Marion. His wife died in Cedar Rapids in 1921. Surviving ar efour children, Mrs. Mae Ross, Mrs. Lillian Daly and Ernest Ratliff of Cedar Rapids and Mrs. Florence Genz of Detroit, Michigan. Also surviving are eleven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Schockley, Salina Kansas, Mrs. Martha Grubb, Sexton, Iowa, and Mrs. Nealie Hastings, Shelbina, Missouri; three brothers, George, William and Dave of Shelbina, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Thursday October 4, at 2:00 p.m. from the Yocom chapel in Marion, in charge of the Rev. C.V.R. DeJong, pastor of the Presbyterian church.
Burial was made in Oak Shade cemetery.
