Charles Frederick Reber was born in Kendallville, Ind., Feb. 24, 1859. He attended the public school at that place until the age of 14, when he entered the service of the Lake Shore railroad as newsboy. He worked in this capacity until the spring of 1879, then entered the service of Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe railroad as brakeman, in Texas. Going from there to Brooklyn, N.Y., he worked on the Buffalo West Shore, returning west to work on the B.C.R. and N. railroad, resigining this position he entered the services of the C.B. & N. and remained there until 1893, when he entered the service of the C.M. & St. Paul railroad. After some six years of service he was promoted to contudcor, and worked til the time of his death. Mr. Reber was the son of Frederick and Kate Reber, natives of Germany, both deceased.
Mr. Reber was married December 21, 1887, to Miss Charlotte Henderson, of Savanna, Ill. One daughter was born to them, Emma F. now the wife of William J. Barth, of Perry, Iowa.
He was a member of the Lutheran faith and a member of the A.F. & A.M. No. 6 of Mairon and B. of R.T. and Mystic Workers lodge No. 50, of Savanna, Ill.
He is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. W.J. Barth, of Perry; one sister, Mrs. Henry Lohman, of Kendallville, Ind., and two grandchildren, George and Marion Barth, of Perry, and a host of friends and acquaintances.
