Married in Denmark to Christine Jensen; divorced and married Mabel H. Bumgardner. There were lawsuits against Mabel for "stealing" Walter away.

Walter Simonsen, 82, of 1808 Fifth ave., passed away at 9:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, in a Cedar Rapids hospital. He was born Nov. 1, 1885 at Klarup, Denmark and came to Marion in 1909. On June 15, 1933 he was married to Mabel H. Bumgardner at Galena, Ill. Mr. Simonsen was a brick-mason and was formerly employed as a foreman at Wilson and Co. He was a member of the Marion Presbyterian church.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Ingerman Simonsen of Oxford Junction, Harold Simonsen of Marion and Earl Simonsen of Cedar Rapids and two daughters, Mrs. Betty Sills of Marion and Mrs. Ella Anderson of Colorado. He was preceded in death by two sons, Bert and Henry Simonsen.
Services were 10 a.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Murdoch chapel in Marion, conducted by Rev. Jean P. Hauter. Interment was in Cedar Memorial Park.
